SMidCap Plus+ Fund (WHGPX) (as of 3/24/2017)

Investment Strategy

The SMidCap Plus Fund invests in the equity securities of 45-65 small to medium-size companies with market capitalizations between $2 billion and $20 billion. The Fund’s investment team and strategy are similar to the tenured Westwood SMidCap Fund. There is significant overlap in holdings between the Fund and the SMidCap Fund, but the SMidCap Plus Fund may invest within a broader market cap range. The strategy seeks to invest in companies with greater earnings growth potential than what the current stock price reflects. Rigid risk management techniques are employed that attempt to produce returns that are less volatile than the benchmark. Detailed fundamental research and analysis are conducted to identify companies with financial strength and flexibility, including those with strong cash flow generation, improving return on equity and a solid balance sheet. The Fund favors companies with a strategic competitive advantage, compelling business fundamentals and experienced management whose compensation is aligned with creating long-term shareholder value.

Portfolio risk is managed by limiting sector weights and the position size of each holding. The Fund’s holdings and new investment opportunities are continually assessed for an optimal reward-to-risk ratio. Holdings are sold upon reaching a predetermined price target, a change to a company’s business fundamentals, a violation of the original investment thesis, or if the investment team identifies a new investment that offers a more attractive opportunity for the Fund.

The SMidCap Plus Fund and is benchmarked against the Russell 2500 Index.
